CME on Gynaecological emergencies
Columbia Asia Radiology Group has organized a CME on “Gynaecological emergencies” at Columbia Asia Hospitals- Yeshwantpur on 30th October 2018.
The event comprised of a presentation by Dr. Vinayak Jayaram, post that there was a discussion session among the participants which has turned out to be very enlightening.
This was organized keeping in view the rising complications in the field of fetal medicine and the importance of managing gynaecological health concerns and emergencies.
The CME focused on the clinical and imaging features of acute gynaecologic diseases and highlighted on USG, CT, and MR imaging findings to help radiologists increase diagnostic accuracy.
The CME was attended by Senior Consultants from Gynaecology Department – Columbia Asia Hospitals, Radiology Consultants and Post Graduate students (Radiology) of Columbia Asia Radiology Group.
There were discussions on several gynecologic emergencies including ovarian torsion, ruptured endometriotic cysts, ovarian dermoid complications, ruptured tubal ectopic, tubo-ovarian abscess, pyometra, uterine arteriovenous malformation and muellerian ductal anomalies.
Imaging findings are important when evaluating acute gynecologic diseases because the symptoms and physical examination findings are often nonspecific and limited. Ultrasonography is the first-line imaging modality; however, when a definitive diagnosis cannot be established, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging may narrow the differential diagnosis.
Appropriate management requires radiologists to be familiar with the CT and MR imaging features of gynecologic emergencies.
